About the organization:
Make the Road PA was launched in 2014 and, over the last decade, has quickly become one of the largest Latinx organizations in the state of Pennsylvania. MRPA now runs three robust organizing centers in Reading, Allentown, and Philadelphia. We have a strong, engaged membership base of Black and Brown working-class people, primarily in Latinx communities. We have a strong track record of local and state campaigns, large-scale mobilizations on federal issues, large-scale civic engagement work, and active leadership among key progressive organizing groups, coalitions, and tables across the state.
About the position
The Field Director is a leadership position that will help plan, coordinate and support MRPA’s civic engagement work. The Field Director is responsible for leading the voter registration program, voter turnout programming in primary and general elections, and maintaining and analyzing data for voter outreach and mobilization. The Field Director will work closely with the Civic Engagement and Political Director and supervise the field team. They will also work with MRPA members to carry out program goals and voter education work. The Field Director will acquire data that will inform stories from community members to help prep spokespeople, engage allies across their region to advance local, state and federal efforts that will benefit the communities they work in. This is not a cycle based position; Make the Road PA runs a year-round field program including in off election years, there is no defined end date for this position.
Location
Philadelphia, Reading, Hazleton, or Allentown, PA. Please note that because this position requires immediate onboarding, we are only able to consider candidates who currently live in a commutable distance from one of the offices; we can not accommodate relocation time.
Travel
This position will involve between-office travel approximately 50% of the time, primarily day trips between Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, and Hazleton. This position will also occasionally travel to New York, DC , other Make the Road states around the country, and conferences, and overnight trips may occur once per quarter.

Job Responsibilities
- Oversee a robust volunteer recruitment, training, and management campaign;
- Build and help lead coalition tables and/or campaigns that deal with issues directly impacting MRPA members;
- Build and maintain relationships with the Field leads/teams of other progressive organizations;
- Manage Field Coordinators to educate voters on progressive issues and get out the vote to boost progressives up and down the ballot;
- Represent campaigns at community events and meetings when advised by the Civic Engagement and Political Director and Executive Director;
- Ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly goals are met and exceeded;
- Conduct extensive coaching and development of staff on best practices for organizing, canvassing, recruitment and retention;
- Ensure that all required soft reporting is accurate and timely, and that all regional data is entered on time;
- Monitor metrics within each assigned region including but not limited to attempts per shifts, flake rate, conversation rate, action conversion rate, and implement rigorous systems to meet assigned goals associated with these metrics including maintaining quality control for all programs with staff;
- Support the development team on program reporting;
- Support the Civic Engagement and Political Director on execution of programs.
What are we looking for?
- 2-3 campaign cycles working in field and/or electoral data;
- Intermediate proficiency, written, reading, and spoken, in Spanish and English;
- 1 cycle of supervision of paid field staff (this could be part time or temporary staff like canvassers);
- Experience working and training in a multigenerational, multiracial, and multicultural space;
- Strong knowledge of VAN, including ability to train staff on using it;
- Experience training field staff on canvassing, phone banking, and/or text banking;
- Very strong ability to analyze, keep track of, and communicate field based data and metrics;
- Experience working directly with volunteers, preferably in the field;
- Experience driving a field campaign, start to finish;
- Ability to be highly organized and highly communicative with coworkers up, down, and sideways;
- Experience implementing a statewide field plan tailored to the assigned region and dividing a statewide goal into manageable goals for individual offices, chapters, districts, etc;
- Highly reflective and able to offer and receive feedback on a regular basis;
- Highly adaptable to changing political landscapes, program goals, and organizational capacity;
- Ability to work long and irregular hours in a fast paced, metrics driven work environment;
- Extremely strong project management skills;
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle;
- Experience training field staff to do training highly preferred but not required;
- Experience working at a blended c3/c4 organization preferred but not required;
- Experience speaking with members of the press and helping a communications team to create content preferred but not required.
Salary
$79,000-$85,000, depending on experience

COVID-19 Policy:
Make the Road employees are required to be fully vaccinated with a FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine on or before their start date. Refusal to receive the vaccine will result in the offer of employment being rescinded.
The work schedule can at times be greater than 40 hours per week and includes evening and weekend meetings and events, as necessary. It is not a strictly 9am-5pm position.
